What does Deuteronomy 5:1 mean?

Moses is gathering everyone together for something important: he wants them to really listen to God's laws and rules, not just hear the words in passing. He's asking them to do more than memorize or nod along—he wants them to understand these teachings deeply enough to actually live by them. There's a warmth in how he addresses them as "Israel," speaking to them as a community with a shared identity and purpose. This moment captures something true about faith itself: learning God's ways isn't meant to be distant or theoretical, but something we take to heart and let shape how we actually treat each other and move through the world.
