What does Deuteronomy 4:12 mean?
At Mount Sinai, the Israelites experienced God's presence in a dramatic and terrifying way, surrounded by fire and thunder as God gave them the Ten Commandments. This verse captures something deeply important about that encounter: they heard God clearly and unmistakably, but God remained invisible, without a physical form they could see. There's real comfort here for anyone struggling to "see" God or feel close to him. The Israelites didn't need to see a face or body to know God was genuinely with them and speaking to them.
