Deuteronomy 33:6
““Let Reuben live, and not die; Nor let his men be few.””
What does Deuteronomy 33:6 mean?
Moses offers this blessing to Reuben, the oldest son of Jacob, asking that his tribe would survive and flourish rather than fade away. In the ancient world, a tribe's strength was measured by its population and vitality, so this is Moses wishing Reuben continued existence and prosperity. The blessing carries particular weight because Reuben had stumbled badly in his past (sleeping with his father's concubine), yet Moses still pronounces God's favor over him. It's a reminder that our mistakes don't have to define our future or determine whether God's goodness reaches us.
