What does Deuteronomy 32:35 mean?
When someone wrongs us deeply, our first instinct is often to strike back or make them pay. This verse reminds us that settling scores isn't our job, it's God's. The passage speaks to a time of national judgment, but the principle applies to our everyday lives: we can't see the full picture the way God can, and we don't have the authority to execute justice ourselves. This doesn't mean wrongdoing goes unpunished or that God ignores injustice. Rather, it's an invitation to release our grip on vengeance and trust that God sees what happened and will ultimately address it. When we hold onto bitterness and the desire for revenge, we tie ourselves to the person who hurt us. Letting go, even when it feels unfinished, is often the path to healing and peace. God's justice may look different than ours, but it's more complete and true than anything we could do ourselves.
