Deuteronomy 32:27
“were it not that I feared the provocation of the enemy, lest their adversaries should judge wrongly, lest they should say, ‘Our hand is exalted, Yahweh has not done all this.’””
What does Deuteronomy 32:27 mean?
God is explaining why he hasn't completely destroyed Israel despite their unfaithfulness, and it reveals something beautiful about his character: he's mindful of his own reputation in the world. If he wiped out his people entirely, their enemies would credit their own strength and power rather than recognizing God's hand at work, which would be a false and arrogant interpretation of what actually happened.
