What does Deuteronomy 31:22 mean?
Moses had just received instructions to write down a song that would serve as a witness against the Israelites, reminding them of God's faithfulness and warning them against turning away. On that same day, he didn't just write it down for safekeeping, but immediately taught it to the people, making sure they could learn it and carry it with them. This song (which appears in Deuteronomy 32) was meant to be remembered and passed along, a portable testimony they could recite even when Moses was no longer with them. There's something deeply human and practical about this moment: Moses was preparing the community for his absence and for the challenges ahead by giving them words they could hold onto.
