Deuteronomy 29:29
“The secret things belong to Yahweh our God; but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.”
What does Deuteronomy 29:29 mean?
This verse acknowledges something many of us wrestle with: there are mysteries about God and life that we simply won't understand this side of eternity, and that's okay. God isn't asking us to figure out everything or to have all the answers before we can move forward in faith. What matters is that we take seriously the things God has actually made clear to us, particularly through Scripture and the guidance available to us right now. The verse carries deep comfort for those in seasons of confusion or grief. When we can't understand *why* something happened, we're still invited to trust what we do know about God's character and to live by the wisdom He has given us. It's permission to let go of the burden of figuring out divine secrets, and instead to focus on the revealed things—God's love, His commands, His promises—that we can actually apply in our lives and pass down to those who come after us.
