Deuteronomy 28:23
“Your sky that is over your head will be brass, and the earth that is under you will be iron.”
What does Deuteronomy 28:23 mean?
When Moses describes the sky as brass and the earth as iron, he's painting a picture of a land completely closed off from blessing. Brass and iron are hard, unyielding metals, so this image means the heavens won't send rain and the ground won't yield crops, no matter how hard people work. In an ancient agricultural society, this would be catastrophic, a direct reversal of God's promise of fruitful harvests. Moses is warning that turning away from God doesn't just invite small troubles, it brings a kind of spiritual drought where even nature itself seems to turn harsh and unresponsive.
