Deuteronomy 24:18
“but you shall remember that you were a slave in Egypt, and Yahweh your God redeemed you there. Therefore I command you to do this thing.”
What does Deuteronomy 24:18 mean?
The command here is to leave a portion of your harvest for the poor and vulnerable to gather. Moses reminds the Israelites that they too once knew what it felt like to be on the lowest rung, enslaved and powerless in Egypt, until God intervened and freed them. Because they've experienced that desperation themselves and received undeserved mercy, they're now called to extend similar compassion to others in need. It's a powerful principle: remembering your own hard season and rescue often becomes the deepest motivation for reaching out to those still struggling.
