What does Deuteronomy 18:1 mean?

The Levites were set apart as Israel's priests and spiritual leaders, so instead of receiving land like the other tribes, they were supported through the sacrificial system itself. When people brought offerings to God, the priests would receive specific portions of meat and grain as their food and income. This arrangement meant the Levites depended directly on God's provision and the community's worship rather than on farming or property ownership. It's a picture of how those called to spiritual service were sustained by the people's faithfulness in giving to God.
