Deuteronomy 17:18
“It shall be, when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write himself a copy of this law in a book, out of that which is before the priests the Levites.”
What does Deuteronomy 17:18 mean?
When Israel's king took power, he was meant to personally write out a copy of God's law for himself. This wasn't about busywork, but about making sure the king stayed accountable to the same rules everyone else followed, rather than seeing himself as above God's instruction. By having his own handwritten copy, the king would be constantly reminded that his authority came from God and was limited by God's law. It's a beautiful picture of leadership shaped by submission to something bigger than personal power.
