Deuteronomy 15:4
“However there shall be no poor with you (for Yahweh will surely bless you in the land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance to possess it)”
What does Deuteronomy 15:4 mean?
God is making a breathtaking promise to Israel: if they follow his laws, particularly his commands about generosity and debt forgiveness, they won't experience poverty in the way other nations do. This isn't naive wishful thinking, but a statement about what happens when a community actually cares for its vulnerable members instead of exploiting them. The parenthetical part is key to understanding what seems impossible. God is saying the blessing itself, when received and shared faithfully, creates conditions where extreme need doesn't develop.
