What does Deuteronomy 14:20 mean?
After laying out specific rules about which birds are forbidden (the ones listed in the previous verses), Moses concludes by affirming that any bird not on that prohibition list is safe to eat. This was practical guidance for the Israelites as they settled in a new land, helping them know which parts of creation God had made available for their food. The underlying principle was trust: God wouldn't leave them guessing about what would nourish or harm them. For us today, whether or not we follow these particular dietary laws, the verse reflects a generous God who provides for our needs and wants us to live with confidence rather than anxiety about the basics of survival.
