Deuteronomy 13:3

you shall not listen to the words of that prophet, or to that dreamer of dreams; for Yahweh your God is testing you, to know whether you love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

What does Deuteronomy 13:3 mean?

When someone claiming to speak for God tries to pull you toward false gods or away from what you know to be true about Him, this verse says: don't follow them, no matter how convincing they sound. God allows these moments of confusion to happen not to trick you, but to show you what's really in your heart, to reveal whether your commitment to Him is genuine or just surface-level. It's a sobering reminder that faith gets tested in real ways. Sometimes the test comes through smooth words or compelling promises from someone who seems spiritual. What matters is whether you'll hold steady to what you actually know about God's character and His revealed truth, even when you're tempted to doubt or be swayed. The deepest love for God shows itself not in easy moments, but in staying faithful when you could easily wander.
