Deuteronomy 12:25
“You shall not eat it; that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, when you shall do that which is right in Yahweh’s eyes.”
What does Deuteronomy 12:25 mean?
This verse is part of Moses' instructions to the Israelites about proper ways to worship and handle food offerings. The "it" refers to blood from sacrificial animals, which God had forbidden them to consume. The deeper point isn't really about the food itself, but about obedience as the foundation for blessing: when you follow God's instructions carefully, even in small or seemingly technical matters, it creates conditions for your whole life and your family's future to flourish. There's a real-world wisdom here too, since avoiding raw blood actually had practical health benefits in that ancient context. The verse invites us to trust that God's instructions aren't arbitrary restrictions meant to burden us, but boundaries that actually protect our wellbeing and leave room for His blessing to flow into our lives and our children's.
