“Aren’t they beyond the Jordan, behind the way of the going down of the sun, in the land of the Canaanites who dwell in the Arabah, near Gilgal, beside the oaks of Moreh?”
What does Deuteronomy 11:30 mean?
This verse is Moses pointing to something the Israelites could actually see from where they stood. He's directing their attention across the Jordan River to specific landmarks in the land they're about to enter, almost as if saying, "See those places over there? That's where you're heading." The "way of the going down of the sun" simply means westward, and he's identifying real geographical features so the people understand exactly what territory God is giving them.
