Deuteronomy 11:18
“Therefore you shall lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul. You shall bind them for a sign on your hand, and they shall be for frontlets between your eyes.”
What does Deuteronomy 11:18 mean?
Moses is calling the people to internalize God's words so deeply that they become the lens through which they see everything. "Laying them up in your heart and soul" means really taking them to heart, not just hearing them once and forgetting them. The second part about binding words on hands and foreheads uses physical imagery that later Jewish tradition made literal (in phylacteries), but the main point is about making God's instruction visible and central to daily life. When your hands represent your actions and your forehead represents your thoughts, the message is: let God's words guide both what you do and how you think. This is about keeping faith woven into the everyday, not tucked away for special occasions.
