Deuteronomy 10:5
βI turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tablets in the ark which I had made; and there they are as Yahweh commanded me.β
What does Deuteronomy 10:5 mean?
Moses is describing the moment he brought the stone tablets with God's Ten Commandments down from Mount Sinai and placed them inside the ark of the covenant, a sacred chest he had constructed. This simple act of safekeeping was deeply meaningful, because those tablets represented God's covenant with the people of Israel, the foundational agreement of their relationship with God. By storing them in the ark and keeping them secure, Moses honored both the law itself and the God who gave it. The phrase "as Yahweh commanded me" reminds us that even in practical details, Moses was faithful to follow God's instructions precisely.
