Deuteronomy 10:20
“You shall fear Yahweh your God; you shall serve him; and you shall cling to him, and you shall swear by his name.”
What does Deuteronomy 10:20 mean?
This verse calls us to anchor our lives in God through reverence, devoted service, and genuine commitment to his name. "Fear" here means respect and awe rather than terror, the kind of healthy regard that naturally draws us closer rather than pushes us away. When we cling to God, we're holding fast to him through life's uncertainties, trusting that he's solid ground even when everything else feels unstable. Swearing by his name simply means letting our words and promises reflect his character and trustworthiness, so our yes means yes and our no means no.
