Deuteronomy 1:43

So I spoke to you, and you didn’t listen; but you rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh, and were presumptuous, and went up into the hill country.

What does Deuteronomy 1:43 mean?

Moses is reminding the Israelites of a moment when they refused to listen to God's guidance, and instead of trusting Him, they charged ahead on their own terms. After God had told them not to enter the land because the timing wasn't right, they became overconfident and tried anyway, convinced they could succeed without His help. It's a painful memory of what happens when we ignore wise counsel and assume we know better, acting on pride rather than obedience. The passage speaks to something deeply human: how easy it is to convince ourselves that we don't need guidance, especially when we're eager to reach a goal.
