Daniel 9:18
“My God, turn your ear, and hear. Open your eyes, and see our desolations, and the city which is called by your name; for we do not present our petitions before you for our righteousness, but for your great mercies’ sake.”
What does Daniel 9:18 mean?
Daniel is pouring out a confession on behalf of his entire people, acknowledging that they're broken and in ruins because of their own unfaithfulness. He's asking God to actually look at what's happening to Jerusalem and its people, not because they deserve help, but because God's mercy is limitless and because the city bears God's own name.
