Daniel 9:13

As it is written in the law of Moses, all this evil has come on us. Yet have we not entreated the favor of Yahweh our God, that we should turn from our iniquities, and have discernment in your truth.

What does Daniel 9:13 mean?

Daniel and his people are confessing that they're experiencing the consequences God warned about in Moses' teachings, yet they haven't truly turned their hearts toward Him or genuinely sought His guidance. There's a recognition here that knowing what's wrong isn't the same as turning away from it or asking God to help us understand His ways differently. He's saying their suffering makes sense given their choices, but the real tragedy is that they haven't deeply pursued reconciliation with God or asked Him to transform how they think and live. It's a honest acknowledgment that external trouble often reflects an inner distance from God, and that real change requires both genuine repentance and a willingness to learn from Him.
