Daniel 6:24
“The king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions mauled them, and broke all their bones in pieces, before they came to the bottom of the den.”
What does Daniel 6:24 mean?
This verse describes King Darius's swift and brutal justice against those who conspired to trap Daniel. The conspirators had manipulated the king into signing a decree that would condemn Daniel to death, and when their plot failed (Daniel survived the lions through God's protection), Darius turned his anger on them instead. The punishment extended to their families, which reflects the harsh judicial practices of ancient Persian culture, where a condemned person's household often shared their fate. While this may feel shocking to modern readers, the passage illustrates an important truth: those who engineer harm for the innocent often find that their own schemes backfire.
