What does Daniel 5:27 mean?
In this moment, the prophet Daniel is interpreting mysterious writing that has appeared on the palace wall during King Belshazzar's feast. The word "tekel" means "weighed," and Daniel is delivering God's judgment: the king has been measured against God's standards and found to fall short. It's the image of a scale, like those used in markets, where one side reveals you don't have enough weight, enough righteousness, enough faithfulness to meet what was required of you. For anyone facing hard truths about themselves or their choices, this verse captures something real about accountability. We do get weighed by what we value and what we claim to stand for.
