What does Daniel 2:26 mean?
King Nebuchadnezzar is asking Daniel if he can do something his own wise men and magicians couldn't: reveal both the dream itself and explain what it means. The king had demanded his advisors tell him what he'd dreamed, and when they couldn't, he threatened to have them all executed, which made this an incredibly dangerous moment. What's striking here is that the king addresses Daniel respectfully by both his Hebrew name and his Babylonian name, showing he's treating him as someone worth listening to, even as a captive. This is the opening of a test that will change Daniel's entire life in exile and reveal his faith to be more powerful than all the kingdom's magic.
