Daniel 1:16
βSo the steward took away their dainties, and the wine that they would drink, and gave them vegetables.β
What does Daniel 1:16 mean?
Daniel and his friends asked to eat simple vegetables and water instead of the rich royal food and wine offered to them in Babylon. This verse shows the steward honoring their request, trading away the fancy provisions for plain nourishment. What makes this moment powerful is that these young men were willing to be different, to refuse what everyone around them considered desirable, because they wanted to stay faithful to their beliefs about what was clean and right. The beautiful part of their story (which continues in the next verse) is that they ended up healthier and stronger than all the others, showing that sometimes choosing the harder path leads to unexpected blessing.
