Colossians 3:17
βWhatever you do, in word or in deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father, through him.β
What does Colossians 3:17 mean?
When Paul writes this, he's inviting us to see every part of our day, from casual conversations to major decisions, as an opportunity to honor Jesus. Doing something "in the name of Jesus" means letting his character and values guide how we act, recognizing that we represent him in the world. The phrase about giving thanks reminds us that gratitude itself becomes our posture, even in ordinary tasks, because everything we're able to do flows from God's care for us. It's a beautifully simple way of saying that there's no real separation between "spiritual" and "regular" life, only a life lived with intention and awareness that we belong to him.
