Amos 9:7
“Are you not like the children of the Ethiopians to me, children of Israel?” says Yahweh. “Haven’t I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt, and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?”
What does Amos 9:7 mean?
God is challenging Israel's assumption that they alone matter to him. Through the prophet Amos, he's saying that other nations—Ethiopians, Philistines, Syrians—are just as significant in his sight as Israel is. This was a shocking message to people who believed their special covenant with God made them uniquely favored and exempt from judgment.
