Amos 9:13
““Behold, the days come,” says Yahweh, “that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the one treading grapes him who sows seed; and sweet wine will drip from the mountains, and flow from the hills.”
What does Amos 9:13 mean?
Amos speaks here about a future time of such extraordinary abundance that the normal rhythm of seasons collapses. Usually there's a gap between planting and harvesting, but here the harvester is still working when the next plowman arrives, ready to plant again. The same happens with grape-treading and sowing, compressed so closely together that one person literally catches up to another. This is Amos's way of describing restoration and blessing after judgment. The same prophet who warned of exile and devastation ends with hope that God will eventually restore his people to a land so fertile and fruitful it will overflow with wine and plenty. It's a poetic image of God's commitment to renewal, meant to comfort a community that needed to know their story didn't end in destruction.
