Amos 6:14
“For, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, house of Israel,” says Yahweh, the God of Armies; “and they will afflict you from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of the Arabah.””
What does Amos 6:14 mean?
God is warning the northern kingdom of Israel that because of their injustice and comfort built on the suffering of others, he will allow a powerful nation to invade and oppress them from their northern border all the way to their southern territory. This wasn't meant as arbitrary punishment but as a consequence they were bringing on themselves through their refusal to live fairly and justly. The specific geographic markers show this would be total, comprehensive devastation that the people couldn't escape. It's a sobering reminder that God takes seriously how we treat one another, especially when the powerful exploit the vulnerable.
