What does Amos 4:8 mean?
During a severe drought, people from multiple towns would desperately travel together to find water in one city that still had a source, only to find even that wasn't enough. The prophet Amos is describing real hardship as a wake-up call from God, pointing out that despite this crisis, the people still hadn't turned back to him or reconsidered their way of living. It's a poignant image of how suffering alone doesn't automatically bring us to reckon with God, sometimes we just keep struggling with the same problems without making real changes. The message underneath is both sobering and hopeful: God allows difficulties partly because he longs for us to recognize what matters and return to him.
