Amos 4:11
““I have overthrown some of you, as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and you were like a burning stick plucked out of the fire; yet you haven’t returned to me,” says Yahweh.”
What does Amos 4:11 mean?
God is reminding Israel that he's already brought devastating judgments on them, yet they still haven't turned back to him. The image of being "a burning stick plucked out of the fire" means they were rescued from complete destruction, narrowly escaping total ruin like Sodom and Gomorrah did. Even after experiencing such close calls with catastrophe, the people continued ignoring God's warnings and living as they pleased. This is God expressing both his patience (he kept giving them chances) and his frustration (despite mercy, they refused to return to him).
