What does Amos 2:7 mean?
Amos delivers one of Scripture's sharpest critiques of injustice here, speaking directly to a wealthy society that has forgotten God's heart. The image of trampling the poor into dust shows how the powerful literally walk over vulnerable people to get what they want, then deny them any legal recourse when wronged. The final part references a particularly grave violation: when a father and son both exploit the same enslaved woman, it reveals a society so morally broken that even sexual abuse loses its shame, and God's name becomes defiled through the casual cruelty of those who claim to worship him. Amos is saying that abandoning justice for the poor and powerless doesn't just hurt people, it actually turns us away from God.
