What does Amos 2:5 mean?

God is warning Judah that He will bring judgment on the nation, symbolized by fire that will destroy even the grandest buildings in Jerusalem. This isn't just about physical destruction, though there is historical reality to that, but about God's response to injustice and unfaithfulness. The "palaces" represent the seat of power and wealth, suggesting that no amount of human strength or security can protect a people who have turned away from God. Amos speaks with an urgency meant to shake people awake, offering a chance to repent before such consequences arrive.
