Amos 1:4
βbut I will send a fire into the house of Hazael, and it will devour the palaces of Ben Hadad.β
What does Amos 1:4 mean?
God's judgment against Syria comes with a concrete warning: fire will destroy the royal seats of power in Damascus. Hazael and Ben Hadad were successive Syrian kings who had oppressed Israel, and Amos announces that their strongholds, the very symbols of their authority and security, will be consumed. This wasn't meant as empty rhetoric but as a genuine consequence for violence and injustice, delivered through the prophet so people would have a chance to understand God's standards. The message reminds us that no position of power, no matter how fortified or impressive, stands outside God's reach or accountability.
