What does Acts 9:25 mean?
When Saul (who would become Paul) first converted to Christianity, he was in Damascus preaching boldly about Jesus. The local Jewish leaders were so furious at his sudden change that they plotted to kill him, and they even got the city's governor involved to guard the gates and arrest him. His new Christian friends faced a real problem: their passionate convert was about to be executed, and the city was locked down. So they did something wonderfully practical and a little desperate. Under cover of darkness, they lowered Saul down the outside of the city wall in a basket, smuggling him out to safety. It's a reminder that faith communities have always helped protect their own, and that sometimes following Jesus requires both courage and quick thinking. What's striking is how far Saul had already gone from being Christianity's greatest threat to being worth risking lives to save.
