You took up the tabernacle of Moloch, the star of your god Rephan, the figures which you made to worship. I will carry you away beyond Babylon.’

What does Acts 7:43 mean?

Stephen is quoting the prophet Amos here, reminding the Jewish leaders of a painful chapter in their ancestors' history when they turned away from God to worship false gods like Moloch and Rephan. He's not just reciting history, though, but making a sharp point: the very people who take pride in their temple and religious traditions are repeating that same pattern of rejecting God's guidance. The promise of being "carried away beyond Babylon" references both the actual exile that happened centuries before and warns that continuing to resist God brings the same kind of spiritual and national consequence. Stephen uses this to show that hardening your heart against God's message, even when delivered through his appointed messengers, has always ended in loss and displacement.
