What does Acts 7:12 mean?
Stephen is recounting Israel's history to show how God's people have always been guided by divine providence, even when circumstances looked desperate. Jacob's family was starving during a famine, and when he learned that grain was available in Egypt, he sent his sons to buy food, not knowing this decision would eventually lead to their survival and the beginning of God's larger plans for his people. This moment reminds us that sometimes our practical needs (like finding food) are actually part of God's bigger story unfolding. Jacob couldn't see how this trip to Egypt would reshape his family's future, just as we often can't see how the difficult seasons we're walking through fit into God's purposes.
