What does Acts 6:2 mean?

The apostles here are facing a practical problem: widows in the growing church aren't being fed fairly, and the twelve are stretched too thin trying to handle everything themselves. Rather than ignore the need, they're being honest about their limits and their calling, recognizing that they can't do justice to both preaching and daily logistics at the same time. What makes this moment so valuable is that they're not dismissing the need for care as unimportant. "Serving tables" meant genuine, dignified work of making sure vulnerable people were fed. Instead, the apostles are saying they need to step back from that particular task so someone else can give it full attention while they focus on teaching and prayer. It's an early lesson in delegation and in recognizing that different people have different roles in a community of faith. This speaks to anyone who feels torn between competing goods, or who thinks spirituality means doing everything yourself. Sometimes the most faithful thing is knowing what you're called to and protecting space for it, while trusting others to faithfully handle what matters too.
