What does Acts 5:31 mean?
Peter speaks these words right after being arrested and questioned by the Jewish council, declaring boldly that Jesus rose from the dead despite threats to his safety. When he says God "exalted" Jesus with his right hand, he means God gave Jesus the highest place of honor and power, seating him in the position of ultimate authority. The titles "Prince and Savior" capture Jesus as both a ruler who leads us and a rescuer who saves us from what we cannot fix ourselves. What's beautiful here is that Peter connects Jesus's exaltation to something deeply personal: the offer of repentance (a genuine turning around of our lives) and the forgiveness of sins (being released from guilt and shame). Peter is saying that Jesus's power isn't distant or cold, but reaches toward us with healing and freedom. This verse reminds us that the one seated in heaven cares about our transformation and our restoration, offering us both the strength to change and the grace to be forgiven.
