What does Acts 5:13 mean?
There's something striking in this contradiction: the apostles were dangerous enough that people kept their distance, yet they were so clearly living out something genuine that everyone respected them. This was Jerusalem right after Jesus's resurrection, when Peter and John had been arrested and threatened, and when Ananias and Sapphira had just died suddenly for lying to the Holy Spirit, so fear hung heavy in the air. The early Christians weren't trying to be popular or build a megachurch, and that's part of what made them powerful. When you're genuinely committed to something beyond yourself, people notice, even if they're too afraid or unsure to join in. That kind of integrity, bought at real cost, earns respect in a way that charm or marketing never will.
