What does Acts 28:27 mean?
Paul quotes Isaiah here to explain why so many Jewish leaders rejected Jesus, even after witnessing signs and hearing the good news. The passage describes a spiritual hardening, not something God forced upon them, but rather a condition they chose through repeated resistance and closed-mindedness. The image is tender and tragic at once: hearts that have grown thick and insensitive, ears that no longer truly listen, eyes deliberately shut. Paul isn't saying God wanted this distance between himself and his people. Rather, he's describing what happens when people persistently turn away from truth. Healing remains available, but it requires openness, willingness to hear, and a heart ready to turn back.
