What does Acts 27:44 mean?
When a ship carrying Paul and 276 other people was caught in a terrible storm, everyone aboard faced certain death. In this moment, God's promise to Paul that he would reach Rome safely (Acts 27:24) extended to everyone traveling with him, and the sailors used whatever floating debris they could find, planks and broken pieces of the ship, to help people reach the shore. What makes this detail striking is its ordinariness alongside the miraculous. God didn't need to send a rescue ship or part the waters, yet his care was completely real: he moved the sailors to practical problem-solving, turned wreckage into lifeboats, and guided every single person safely to land.
