What does Acts 26:16 mean?
Jesus appears to Paul during his dramatic encounter on the Damascus Road and calls him to get up, pay attention, and recognize what's happening. He's telling Paul that this meeting isn't random or meaningless, but has a specific purpose: Paul is being chosen to serve as someone who will tell others about Jesus, both based on what he's already witnessed and what God will continue to show him in the future. There's something beautiful and practical in this passage. Jesus doesn't just give Paul a vague spiritual experience; he gives him a concrete role and mission. When we're struggling to understand our own purpose or feel called to something larger than ourselves, this reminds us that God often clarifies our direction through the very experiences we're going through, even the hard or unexpected ones. We become witnesses and servants not because we've earned it, but because we've been chosen and commissioned to share what we know and what God continues to reveal to us.
