Acts 15:10
“Now therefore why do you tempt God, that you should put a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?”
What does Acts 15:10 mean?
Peter is defending his decision to welcome non-Jewish believers without requiring them to follow all Jewish laws. He's saying it's unreasonable to burden these new Christians with rules that even the Jewish people throughout history found nearly impossible to keep perfectly. The "yoke" he mentions is the weight of trying to earn God's favor through strict rule-keeping, which misses the point of Jesus's grace. He's essentially asking: why would we ask others to do something we ourselves have struggled with, when faith in Jesus offers a better way?
