Acts 14:11

What does Acts 14:11 mean?
The people of Lystra had just witnessed Paul heal a man who'd been crippled from birth, and their immediate response was to assume they were looking at divine beings. In their culture and religious worldview, gods occasionally descended to earth in human form, so this miracle seemed like proof that Paul and Barnabas were deities visiting them. Their excitement and attribution of godhood to the apostles shows how easily people can misunderstand what they're seeing when they filter it through their existing beliefs. This moment sets up an important correction: Paul will soon have to clarify that he and Barnabas are just ordinary humans, and that any power at work came through faith in the true God, not from themselves.
