Acts 13:27

For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they didn’t know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.

What does Acts 13:27 mean?

The people of Jerusalem and their leaders rejected Jesus without truly understanding who he was, even though they heard the Hebrew scriptures read aloud every week in synagogue. Those same scriptures were full of predictions about the Messiah, but the leaders didn't recognize Jesus as the one being described. By condemning and executing him, they actually brought about exactly what the ancient prophets had foretold, even though they didn't intend to fulfill anything, so in an ironic way, God's plan moved forward through their very opposition to it.
