Acts 13:21
“Afterward they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.”
What does Acts 13:21 mean?
The people of Israel rejected God's direct guidance and asked for a king like the nations around them, wanting a human ruler they could see and follow. God granted their request and gave them Saul, who seemed like a promising choice at first, tall and impressive. However, this forty-year period under Saul's rule became a cautionary tale about what happens when we insist on having our way instead of trusting God's plan. Later, God would replace Saul with David, whose heart was more aligned with God's own purposes, showing that what we demand isn't always what we actually need.
