What does Acts 13:10 mean?
Paul's words here are sharp because they're aimed at someone actively misleading others about Jesus. Elymas the sorcerer was trying to keep the Roman governor from hearing the Gospel, and Paul confronted him directly, naming the spiritual reality of what was happening. When Paul calls him a "son of the devil," he means Elymas was serving deception and darkness rather than truth, just as Jesus said the devil is "the father of lies." This moment shows that faith isn't always gentle or diplomatic. Sometimes standing up for truth means calling out harm, especially when people are being prevented from encountering God's offer of grace. Paul wasn't being mean for its own sake, but speaking with the authority of the Holy Spirit to expose a spiritual danger in that moment.
