Acts 12:1

What does Acts 12:1 mean?
King Herod had begun a campaign of persecution against the early church, using his political power to arrest and harm believers. This happened after Jesus had risen and ascended, when the apostles were actively spreading the gospel in Jerusalem. The phrase "stretched out his hands" suggests deliberate, aggressive action, not random violence. Luke is setting up the story of how Peter was imprisoned during this time and how God miraculously freed him, showing that no earthly ruler's power ultimately limits God's ability to protect and preserve his people.
